Andromeda's father, Cepheus, had boasted that she was more beautiful than the Nereids, the daughters of the sea. Posiden, the god of the sea, got mad and sent a sea-monster to destroy the city. An oracle told Cepheus to chain his daughter to a rock as a sacrifice. Perseus arrived just in time and killed the monster and married Andromeda.
